Blank Tickets: Pre-Printed Backups for Box Office Sales
Blank Tickets pageOverview
Blank tickets are pre-printed paper tickets containing your event information with empty fields for order numbers, ticket numbers, and staff authorisation. They provide a reliable backup for selling tickets at the door when you cannot print tickets on demand.
At its simplest, blank tickets answer one question: How do I sell tickets when I have no working printer at the venue?
Who uses this: Event administrators with Order as Admin permission.
Key capabilities:
- Print batches of 4 pre-formatted tickets per page
- Include your organisation logo, event name, venue, and date
- Provide empty fields for manual order tracking
- Create paper receipts for offline transactions
- Work without internet connectivity at the venue
How It Works
At a glance: Print blank tickets in advance, fill them in at the door, then reconcile sales after the event.
1. Generate and print before the event
Access the blank tickets feature from your event or event date admin menu. The system generates 4 tickets per page, formatted for A4 paper with dashed cut lines between them. Print enough stock for your expected walk-up sales.
2. Fill in details at point of sale
When a customer arrives without a booking, calculate their ticket cost, take payment, and complete the blank ticket by hand. Write the order number, ticket or seat number, and sign or initial the authorisation box. Give the completed ticket to the customer.
3. Reconcile after the event
Match the issued tickets against cash received. Record offline sales in Seaty for complete records and financial reporting. Secure or destroy any unused blank tickets.
Think of it this way:
- Online tickets are processed automatically with QR codes for scanning
- Blank tickets are manual receipts for sales outside the booking system
- Sample tickets are test previews to check your ticket design
When to Use Blank Tickets
Best suited for:
- Door sales when attendees arrive without advance bookings
- Box office backup when your regular printer fails
- Emergency stock for technical issues
- Events at venues with unreliable internet or power
- Walk-up traffic requiring immediate ticket issuance
Not suited for:
- Regular advance bookings (use the online booking system)
- QR code scanning at entry (blank tickets have no scannable codes)
- Precise seat assignments in complex seating plans (use seated tickets online)

Using Blank Tickets at Your Event
Staff Workflow
- Customer arrives: Determine ticket requirements (quantity, category)
- Calculate price: Use your event's pricing structure
- Take payment: Accept cash, card terminal, or other offline method
- Fill in details:
- Write unique order number in "Order #" box
- Write ticket or seat number in "Ticket #" box (e.g., "A12" for seat A12)
- Sign or initial "Authorised by" box
- Issue ticket: Give completed ticket to customer
- Record transaction: Log the sale for later entry into Seaty
Order Number Guidelines
Since blank tickets are issued offline, create manual order numbers:
- Use a consistent format (e.g., "DOOR-001", "BOX-523")
- Ensure numbers do not duplicate existing online orders
- Consider prefixing with "BLANK", "DOOR", or "BOX" to identify offline sales
- Keep a running log of issued order numbers
Recording Sales After the Event
- Count tickets: Reconcile the number of blank tickets issued
- Total revenue: Calculate cash and offline payment amounts received
- Record in system: Consider creating manual orders in Seaty for record-keeping
- Update attendance: Mark these attendees as admitted using the Admit & Redeem feature if needed
Inventory Management
Before Your Event
- Print sufficient stock: Generate and print enough tickets for expected door sales
- Safe storage: Keep printed tickets secure to prevent unauthorised use
- Brief staff: Train box office staff on the manual ticket process
- Prepare order logs: Create a manual log sheet for tracking issued tickets
During Your Event
- Sequential numbering: Issue tickets in order to simplify reconciliation
- Legible completion: Ensure all fields are filled in clearly
- Duplicate records: Consider keeping carbon copies or photographing completed tickets
- Secure cash handling: Follow proper cash management procedures
After Your Event
- Reconciliation: Match issued tickets against cash received
- Unused stock: Secure or destroy unused blank tickets (they are event-specific)
- Data entry: Enter offline sales into Seaty for complete records
- Financial reporting: Include offline sales in your event's financial reconciliation
Best Practices
Printing Recommendations
- Print in advance rather than waiting until event day
- Use good quality paper (80gsm minimum) for professional appearance
- Always do a test print to check formatting and layout
- Generate more than you expect to need (unused tickets can be destroyed)
- Verify your organisation logo displays correctly before printing
Avoiding Duplicate Sales
If you sell both online and at the door, be careful with seated events:
- Check online bookings before issuing specific seat numbers
- Consider reserving certain seat ranges exclusively for door sales
- Use the Locks feature to reserve seats for offline sales
Security Considerations
- Store blank tickets securely (they could be used fraudulently)
- Consider adding unique security features (coloured paper, stamps)
- Number tickets sequentially on the back for tracking
- Do not leave blank ticket stock unattended at box office
Record Keeping
- Photograph or scan all completed tickets before disposal
- Maintain clear records of who issued which tickets
- Create a paper trail for audit purposes
- Keep backup copies of order logs
Integration with Online Sales
Blank tickets work alongside your online ticketing system:
- Monitor capacity: Check available tickets before issuing blank tickets
- Update system: Record offline sales to prevent overselling
- Reconcile totals: Ensure total attendance (online plus offline) does not exceed capacity
- Reporting: Include offline sales in your event summary and financial reports
Common Questions
Functionality
Can blank tickets be scanned at the door?
No. Blank tickets do not include QR codes or barcodes. They serve as physical receipts and must be manually verified by staff.
How do I mark blank ticket holders as admitted?
Use the Admit & Redeem feature to manually mark tickets as admitted if you have recorded the ticket details in the system.
Can I customise the blank ticket design?
The design uses your organisation's logo and event information automatically. The layout is standardised for professional appearance and print compatibility.
Usage
Are blank tickets event-specific or generic?
Blank tickets are event-specific. Each set is generated for a particular event (or event date) and includes the exact details. Do not reuse blank tickets across different events.
What if I sell more blank tickets than capacity allows?
This is why reconciliation is important. Always check available capacity before issuing blank tickets, and maintain careful records during sales.
Comparison with Other Ticket Types
What is the difference between blank tickets and sample tickets?
Blank tickets are real tickets for manual allocation and sale. Sample tickets are test tickets with mock data to preview ticket design. Use sample tickets to check formatting; use blank tickets for actual sales.
What is the difference between blank tickets and online tickets?
Blank tickets are manual, offline, have no QR codes, and are filled in by hand. Online tickets are digital, automated, include QR codes, and are pre-filled. Online tickets integrate automatically with scanning and attendance tracking, while blank tickets require manual reconciliation after the event.
What is the difference between blank tickets and box office collection orders?
Blank tickets are issued for walk-up purchases with no prior booking. Box office collection orders are pre-paid online orders awaiting venue pickup. Box office collection orders already exist in the system with QR codes; blank tickets are for sales that have not been processed through Seaty yet.
