Creating an Organisation on Seaty
Overview
An organisation on Seaty represents your company, venue, or group. It's the foundation for everything you do on the platform.
At its simplest, an organisation answers one question: Where do my events belong?
Who uses this: Event organisers and venue managers creating their first organisation.
Key capabilities:
- Contains all your events and tours
- Manages your brand identity with logo, description, and unique URL
- Controls team access and staff permissions
- Handles financial settings and payment processing
- Provides a central box office for contact details
Example: If you're "The Grand Theatre", your organisation would be the theatre itself, with individual productions as events underneath it.
Before you begin:
- You must have a Seaty account -
How It Works
At a glance: Sign in, open the organisation wizard, enter your details, and save. You'll have a unique URL and be ready to create events.
1. Access the wizard
Sign in and select "Create event" from your profile menu. The wizard opens, letting you choose an existing organisation or create a new one.
2. Enter your details
Provide your organisation name, unique tag (for your URL), description, address, and contact information.
3. Save and configure
Save your organisation and you're automatically set as administrator. From there, customise branding, set up payments, and invite team members.
Think of it this way:
- Organisation is your permanent identity on Seaty (like your company profile)
- Events are the individual ticketed occasions you host (shows, classes, performances)
- Tours optionally group related events together (a production visiting multiple venues)
Step 1: Access the Organisation Wizard
The organisation wizard guides you through creating your organisation.
How to access it:
- Sign in to your Seaty account at Seaty
- Click your profile menu in the top right
- Select "Create event" from the menu
- The organisation wizard will open, showing any existing organisations
- Click "Make a new organisation" to begin
Note: When you create an event, you first choose (or create) the organisation it belongs to. If you already have organisations, they'll be listed and you can select an existing one or create a new one.
Step 2: Enter Organisation Details
You'll need to provide some essential information about your organisation:
Organisation Name
What is the name of your organisation?
This is how your organisation will appear across Seaty - in event listings, URLs, and communications with attendees.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 characters
Guidelines:
- Use your official organisation name
- Keep it clear and recognisable
Examples:
- "The Grand Theatre"
- "St Mary's School"
- "Riverside Community Centre"
Organisation Tag
What unique organisation tag would you like?
Your organisation tag is your unique identifier on Seaty. It becomes part of your custom URL:
seaty.co.uk/YourOrgTag
Requirements:
- Must be unique across all of Seaty
- Minimum 3 characters, maximum 22 characters
- Only letters, numbers, and hyphens allowed
- No spaces or special characters
- Use hyphens to separate words
Examples:
grand-theatrest-marys-schoolriverside-centre
Important: You cannot change your organisation tag after creation. Choose something short, memorable, and easy to share.
Why? Your organisation tag becomes your permanent URL and is used across all your events and marketing materials.
Organisation Description
Tell attendees about your organisation. This appears on your organisation page and helps people understand who you are.
What to include:
- Brief history or background
- Your mission or focus
- Types of events you host
- Anything that makes you unique
Example:
"The Grand Theatre has been entertaining audiences since 1902. We present a mix of classic and contemporary productions, from Shakespeare to modern musicals, along with community workshops and youth theatre programmes."
Step 3: Add Your Address
Your organisation's address helps attendees find you and appears on event pages.
Required fields (all must be at least 3 characters):
-
Street Address - Your full street address
- Example: "42 High Street"
-
City - Your city or town
- Example: "Manchester"
-
Postcode - Your full UK postcode
- Example: "M1 1AA"
Why we need this: Your address helps attendees find your venue, enables map integration for events, and appears in booking confirmations.
Step 4: Add Contact Information
Make it easy for attendees to reach you with questions or support requests.
Box Office Email
Recommended: This is where attendees can send enquiries about bookings, tickets, and events.
- Use a monitored email address
- Examples:
boxoffice@grandtheatre.co.uk,tickets@venue.co.uk
Box Office Telephone
Optional: A contact number for phone enquiries.
- Include area code
- Format: 01234 567890 or 07123 456789
Website URL
Optional: Link to your organisation's website.
- Full URL including
https:// - Example:
https://www.grandtheatre.co.uk
Important: These details appear on all your event pages, so ensure they're monitored and up-to-date.
Step 5: Save Your Organisation
Once you've filled in the required fields, you're ready to save.
What happens next:
- Click "Save & create new organisation"
- Seaty creates your organisation and sets up your unique URL
- You'll see a confirmation screen with your organisation details
- You're automatically set as the organisation administrator
After saving, you can:
- Access the full organisation editor for advanced settings
- Add your logo and branding
- Set up payment processing
- Invite team members
- Create your first event
Next Steps
Now that your organisation is set up, you're ready to:
Create Your First Event
Events are where the magic happens. Create performances, shows, classes, or any ticketed gathering.
Set Up a Tour
If you're running a series of related events (like a production touring different venues), create a tour to group them together.
Customise Your Organisation
Head to the organisation editor to:
- Upload your logo
- Customise your theme and colours
- Set up Stripe Connect for payment processing
- Add team members and manage permissions
- Configure member types and memberships
Understanding Organisation Structure
Here's how organisations, tours, and events relate to each other:
Organisation (The Grand Theatre)
├── Event: Romeo and Juliet - March 2025
├── Event: Community Workshops - Spring Series
└── Tour: Shakespeare Festival 2025
├── Event: Hamlet - London
├── Event: Hamlet - Manchester
└── Event: Hamlet - Edinburgh
Key concepts:
- Every event must belong to an organisation
- Tours are optional groupings of related events
- Events can exist independently or as part of a tour
- All three share your organisation's branding and settings
Common Questions
Organisation Setup
Can I have multiple organisations? Yes! If you manage multiple venues or distinct brands, you can create separate organisations for each. Each has its own URL, branding, and event management.
Can I change my organisation tag later? No, organisation tags are permanent once created. Choose carefully!
Why? Your organisation tag is your permanent URL and is used across all marketing materials and event pages. However, you can change your organisation name, description, and all other details anytime.
What's the difference between an organisation and an event? Your organisation is your permanent identity on Seaty - like your company profile. Events are the individual ticketed occasions you host - like specific shows, performances, or classes.
Access & Payments
Who can access my organisation? By default, only you (as the creator) have access. You can invite team members and assign them specific permissions through the organisation editor.
Do I need to provide financial details now? No, basic organisation setup doesn't require payment information. You'll set up Stripe Connect when you're ready to start accepting online payments for events.
