Tour Images: Main Gallery, Showcase, Banners, and Captions
Overview
Your tour has four image areas on Seaty: a main image gallery of up to five images shown beside the tour description, an optional showcase gallery of real photos below the description, an optional wide header banner at the top, and an optional wide footer banner at the bottom.
At its simplest, the Images section answers one question: What does my tour look like to the world?
Who uses this: Organisers with tour-edit permission.
Key capabilities:
- A main gallery of up to five images shown alongside your tour description
- The first image in the main gallery is your tour's "face", used in search results, event listings, on the Seaty app, and as the social-share preview
- Drag images to reorder; moving an image to the first slot makes it the new main image
- Adjust the focal point of each image so the right part stays visible at any crop
- Add a caption to each image, shown in the lightbox and used by screen readers and search engines
- An optional showcase gallery of up to five real photos shown below your description: pick a horizontal strip or a vertical magazine-style flow
- Optional wide header and footer banners that frame your tour page
- Attendees can click any image to open it in a fullscreen lightbox
How It Works
At a glance: Add a main image (and up to four more). Optionally add a header banner, a footer banner, or both. Save the tour and everything appears immediately.
1. Pick your main image
The first image in the main gallery represents your tour everywhere it appears outside its own page: search results, event listings, the Seaty app, and the social-share preview. Choose the image that best captures the tour at a glance.
2. Add supporting images (optional)
Add up to four more images to sit beside your description. Drag any image to a different slot to reorder it, and dragging an image to the first slot makes it the new main image.
3. Add a header and/or footer banner (optional)
Wide, edge-to-edge images framing the top and bottom of your tour page. Banners must be wider than they are tall, at least twice as wide. When you upload one, you'll be asked to crop it to a 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, or 5:1 shape.
4. Save
Click Save in the editor toolbar. All your images upload, your tour page updates, and the main image becomes available across Seaty.
Think of it this way:
- The main gallery is the picture book sitting next to your tour description
- The first image is your tour's face to the rest of Seaty
- The showcase gallery is the in-page photo strip below the description, for real photos, not poster variants
- The banners are optional cinematic strips that frame the page top and bottom
- Focal points decide what stays visible when an image is cropped
- Captions are what attendees, screen readers, and search engines read
Per-image options
Each image in the main gallery has:
- Adjust focus: choose which part of the image stays visible when it's cropped to different shapes (square thumbnail, banner, tall card). Useful when the subject is off-centre.
- Caption: appears under the image in the lightbox; used as alt text for screen readers and search engines.
Drag images to reorder them. The first slot is always the main image.
The Showcase Gallery
The showcase gallery is a separate, optional gallery of up to five images that appears below your tour description. It's the spot for real photos that tell the story of your tour: cast shots, rehearsal moments, venue interiors, production stills, audience reactions.
Why a separate gallery? The main gallery beside your description does double duty: its first image is also your tour's "face" everywhere on Seaty. That means it tends to fill up with poster variants and marketing artwork rather than photography. The showcase has no such job, so it's the place to put the photos you'd actually want someone to see.
Horizontal vs Vertical layout
Once you've added at least one image, a layout toolbar appears with two buttons:
- Horizontal (default): images sit side by side in a single row. 1 image is shown larger and centred; 2 split half the row each; 3–5 fill the row equally.
- Vertical: images stack as larger 16:9 magazine-style rows, one above another. Use this for storytelling sequences where each photo deserves its own moment.
On phones and narrow tablets, both layouts collapse to a single column.
Showcase vs main gallery
| Feature | Main gallery | Showcase gallery |
|---|---|---|
| Position on the page | Beside your tour description | Below your description |
| First image used elsewhere? | Yes, it's your tour's "face" | No, only appears on the tour page |
| Image cap | Up to 5 | Up to 5 |
| Layout options | Grid, Stacked, Hero + Left/Right position | Horizontal or Vertical |
| Best for | Posters, key art, marketing visuals | Real photos: cast, rehearsal, venue |
| Required to have at least one? | Recommended (without it your tour has no main image) | No |
Header and footer banners
Banners are optional, single, wide images. Each banner holds exactly one image. Adding a new banner image replaces the existing one.
Banners must be at least 2:1, twice as wide as they are tall. The crop tool offers 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, or 5:1 presets. If your image is already wider than 2:1, the crop tool offers an Original preset that uses the image as-is with no cropping.
The lightbox
When an attendee clicks any image in your main gallery, it opens in a fullscreen lightbox. They can use arrow keys to navigate, see captions below each image, and press Escape to close.

Where Your Images Appear
Your main image (the first image in the main gallery) displays in multiple locations:
- Your tour page: at the top of the description area, in the chosen layout
- Search results: thumbnail when users browse tours
- Event listings: tours show up alongside their child events
- Social media: preview image when your tour URL is shared
- Seaty app: tour listings and detail pages
The rest of your main gallery and your banners appear only on your tour page itself.
Common Questions
Which image is my "main image"?
The first image in the main gallery. You can change it by dragging a different image into the first slot.
What happens to existing tours that only had a single LogoUrl image?
Older tours that haven't been re-saved since the gallery feature was added will still show the original logo as a fallback hero image on the about page. As soon as you open the tour editor and save, the gallery system takes over and the first AboutSide image becomes the new main image.
Can I use SVG, WebP, or HEIC files?
No. Only JPEG and PNG are accepted.
