Display Settings
Overview
Display settings give you complete control over how the app looks and feels. Whether you prefer dark mode for evening use, need high contrast for better visibility, or require colour blindness support, these settings adapt the app to your needs.
At its simplest, Display Settings answers one question: How do I make this app easier to see and use?
Who uses this: Anyone using the Seaty mobile app.
Key capabilities:
- Switch between light, dark, or automatic appearance
- Choose from accessibility themes including colour blindness support and reading mode
- Adjust display size from 50% to 150% for better readability
- Sync preferences across all your devices when signed in
How It Works
At a glance: Choose your preferred appearance (light, dark, or automatic), select a theme that suits your needs, and adjust the size until text is comfortable to read.
1. Select your appearance
Decide whether you want the app to always use light mode, always use dark mode, or follow your device's setting automatically. This affects the background and text colours throughout the app.
2. Choose a theme
Pick the Standard theme for everyday use, or select an accessibility theme if you need enhanced visibility, colour blindness support, or a calmer reading experience.
3. Set your display size
Use the preset sizes for quick selection, or fine-tune with the slider. Larger sizes make text and buttons easier to tap; smaller sizes show more content on screen.
Think of it this way:
- Appearance controls whether the app is light or dark
- Theme controls colours and contrast for accessibility needs
- Display size controls how large everything appears
Appearance
The appearance setting controls whether the app uses light or dark backgrounds.
Light displays a bright interface with dark text. This works well in well-lit environments and provides a traditional app look.
Dark displays a dark interface with light text. This reduces eye strain in low light and can save battery on OLED screens.
System (recommended) automatically matches your device's current setting. If your phone switches to dark mode at sunset, the app follows along.
To change appearance:
- Open Display Settings
- Tap Light, Dark, or System under the Appearance section
- The change applies immediately
Themes
Themes control the colour palette and visual styling beyond just light and dark. Each theme serves different accessibility needs.
Available Themes
Standard - The default Seaty theme with a clean, modern design. Blue primary colours with standard contrast suitable for general use.
High Contrast - Enhanced visibility with maximum contrast and bold text. Best for users who need stronger visual distinction.
Protanopia - Colour blind friendly theme optimised for red colour deficiency.
Deuteranopia - Colour blind friendly theme optimised for green colour deficiency.
Tritanopia - Colour blind friendly theme optimised for blue colour deficiency.
Monochromacy - Complete colour blindness support with a greyscale interface.
Reading Mode - Dyslexia support with specialised fonts and increased spacing for easier reading.
Focus Mode - ADHD support with calming colours and reduced visual noise.
To change theme:
- Open Display Settings
- Scroll to the Theme section
- Tap your preferred theme
- The change applies immediately
Display Size
Display size scales all text and interface elements. Four preset sizes offer quick selection, while a slider provides fine control.
Presets
Small (85%) - Compact interface showing more content per screen. Best for larger phones or excellent vision.
Default (100%) - Standard sizing balanced for most users.
Large (115%) - Increased text and buttons. Best for smaller phones or when reading comfort is important.
Extra Large (130%) - Maximum visibility with significantly larger elements. Best for visual impairments or accessibility needs.
Custom Size
The slider allows any size from 50% to 150%. As you drag, the percentage updates so you can see exactly what size you're selecting.
To set a custom size:
- Scroll to the Custom Size section
- Drag the slider to your preferred percentage
- Tap Apply to confirm your selection
- The app updates to your new size
Note: Custom size changes require tapping Apply before they take effect. This prevents accidental changes while adjusting the slider.
Settings Synchronisation
When you're signed in, display preferences sync to your account:
- Changes save immediately when online
- If you're offline, changes save locally and sync when you reconnect
- Sign in on a new device to get your preferences automatically
When signed out, settings store locally on that device only and do not sync.
Common Questions
Appearance
What if I want the app always dark but my phone on automatic? Select Dark in Display Settings. This overrides your device setting for the Seaty app only.
Why does System mode not match my phone sometimes? There may be a brief moment after your device switches modes before the app updates. This is normal.
Themes
Which theme should I choose for colour blindness? Select the theme that matches your type of colour vision: Protanopia for red deficiency, Deuteranopia for green deficiency, Tritanopia for blue deficiency, or Monochromacy for complete colour blindness.
Can I use High Contrast with Dark mode? Yes. Appearance and Theme work independently. You can combine High Contrast with Light, Dark, or System appearance.
Display Size
My custom size did not save. What happened? Custom slider changes require tapping Apply to confirm. If you adjust the slider without tapping Apply, your previous size remains.
Is there a limit to how large I can make things? The maximum is 150%. If you need larger text, also check your device's accessibility settings which can provide additional scaling.
Synchronisation
Why did my preferences change on this device? If you signed in, your cloud preferences loaded. If these differ from what you had locally, the cloud version takes precedence.
Can I have different settings on different devices? Not while signed in. All devices sharing the same account share the same display preferences. Sign out to use device-specific settings.
