Data & Privacy
Overview
The Data & Privacy screen gives you control over everything the Seaty app stores on your device and on our servers. Whether you need to free up storage, switch accounts, or reset the app to its original state, all your data management options are in one place.
At its simplest, Data & Privacy answers one question: What data does this app have and how do I manage it?
Who uses this: Anyone using the Seaty mobile app who wants to manage their stored data, clear space on their device, or reset their settings.
Key capabilities:
- Clear downloaded event files to free device storage
- Remove offline ticket data after events conclude
- Reset all settings to their original defaults
- Sign out of all accounts on the device
- Clear cached data and temporary files
- Remove favourite events from your list
How It Works
At a glance: Access the Data & Privacy screen from Settings, review what data exists in each category, then clear specific items or reset everything at once.
1. Access the screen
Open the main menu (three horizontal lines), tap Settings, then tap "Data & privacy". The screen shows all data categories with counts showing how much data exists in each.
2. Review your data
Each section displays a count of items stored. For example, you might see "3 files stored locally" under Files & Downloads, or "150 tickets from 2 events" under Offline Data. This helps you understand what is using device storage.
3. Clear specific categories
Tap any category to clear just that type of data. The app confirms what will be removed before deleting anything. You can clear categories independently without affecting other data.
4. Complete reset (optional)
For a full reset, use "Clear all app data" at the bottom. This signs you out, removes all downloads, clears offline tickets, resets settings, and returns the app to its initial state.
Think of it this way:
- Account data is like your identity - clearing it signs you out
- Settings are your preferences - resetting them returns defaults
- Downloads and cache are temporary copies - clearing them frees space without losing originals
Data Categories
Accounts
This section shows all user accounts currently signed in on your device.
What gets cleared:
- All signed-in accounts on this device
- Your authentication credentials
- Saved login information
What remains:
- Your account on the server (you can sign back in)
- Orders, tickets, and event access
- Any server-stored settings (restored on next sign-in)
Note: Clearing accounts signs you out immediately. You will need to sign back in to access your events and tickets.
Settings & Preferences
This section covers all your customised settings including display preferences, scan configurations, and general preferences.
What gets reset:
- Appearance (reverts to matching your device theme)
- Theme (reverts to Standard)
- Display size (reverts to 100%)
- Button vibration (reverts to enabled)
- Camera torch (reverts to enabled)
- Scan sounds (reverts to enabled)
- Scan vibration (reverts to enabled)
- Camera selection (reverts to rear facing)
- Delay between scans (reverts to 0 seconds)
- Automatic check-in on scan (reverts to enabled)
- Camera preview size (reverts to Medium)
- Offline scanning (reverts to disabled)
- Force offline mode (reverts to disabled)
What remains:
- Downloaded files
- Offline ticket data
- Signed-in accounts
- Favourite events
Note: When signed in, resetting settings also removes your saved preferences from the server. Your settings will sync as defaults to other devices.
Files & Downloads
Downloaded event files including documents, images, audio, and video from event file libraries.
What gets cleared:
- All downloaded event files
- File metadata and recent files list
- Media playback positions
What remains:
- Original files in the event's file library (you can re-download them)
- Offline ticket data (separate category)
Offline Data
Ticket data downloaded for offline scanning, plus any scans recorded while offline.
Offline Tickets:
- Downloaded ticket data for scanning without internet
- Event date information
- Attendee names and seat assignments
Offline Scans:
- Scan records not yet uploaded to the server
- Pending scan history
Note: Before clearing offline scans, ensure they have been synced to the server. Unsynced scans will be permanently lost and cannot be recovered.
Events
Your favourite events and cached event data.
Favourites:
- Events you have starred
- Cleared from server when signed in
- Cleared from device only when signed out
Event Cache:
- Locally stored event information for faster loading
- Automatically rebuilds when you view events
Cache & Temporary Data
Temporary files used for performance and incomplete downloads.
Cache:
- Stored responses for faster loading
- Image previews and thumbnails
- Temporary processing data
Temporary Files:
- Incomplete downloads
- Processing files
- Orphaned temporary files
Clearing these is safe and frees device storage. The app recreates cached data as needed.
Common Tasks
Freeing Device Storage
Start with the safest options that have no impact on your data:
- Clear temporary files - Always safe, removes incomplete downloads
- Clear cache - Regenerates automatically when needed
- Clear old downloads - Files can be re-downloaded from event file libraries
- Clear event cache - Events reload from server when accessed
- Clear completed event offline data - Only needed for past events
Switching Accounts
If you need to sign in as a different user:
- Tap Clear all accounts
- Confirm the action
- Sign in with your other account
Your settings will reload from the server if you previously used that account on any device.
Troubleshooting Issues
If the app behaves unexpectedly:
- Clear cache - Resolves most display issues
- Reset all settings - Fixes configuration problems
- Clear all app data - Complete reset as a last resort
Before Selling or Transferring Your Device
Use Clear all app data to remove all personal information from the app. This:
- Signs out all accounts
- Removes all downloaded files
- Clears all offline data
- Resets all settings
- Removes all cached content
Where Data is Stored
Device Only
This data stays on your device and does not sync:
- Downloaded files
- Offline ticket database
- Cache and temporary files
- Authentication tokens
Clearing app data or uninstalling removes this data permanently.
Server Backed
This data syncs across your devices when signed in:
- Settings and preferences
- Favourite events
- Scan history (after syncing)
This data persists after sign-out and loads again when you sign back in.
Common Questions
Storage and Space
How much space can I free by clearing data? Downloaded files typically use the most space, especially video and audio. Cache usually uses 1-10 MB. Offline tickets use very little space (about 500 bytes per ticket).
Will clearing cache slow down the app? Slightly on first load. The app rebuilds cache automatically as you use it.
Safety and Recovery
Can I undo clearing data? No. Cleared data cannot be recovered. However, most data can be recreated: files can be re-downloaded, cache rebuilds automatically, and settings can be reconfigured.
Will I lose my tickets if I clear data? No. Your orders and tickets are stored on the server. Clearing data only removes local copies. Sign back in to access your tickets.
What if I clear offline scans by mistake? Unsynced scans cannot be recovered. Only clear offline scans if you are certain they have been uploaded or if the scan data is recorded elsewhere.
Account and Settings
Do I need to reconfigure everything after clearing? If you reset settings while signed in, your defaults sync to the server. When you sign back in, settings load from the server. If you cleared all data while signed out, you will need to reconfigure manually.
Will my settings appear on my other devices? Yes, when signed in. Settings sync automatically across all devices where you sign in with the same account.
