Browsing Events on the Seaty Mobile App

Browse and discover events in the Seaty mobile app: search by name or venue, save favourites, view full event details, and find shows near you.

The Seaty mobile app provides multiple ways to browse and discover events. Whether you're viewing events you have tickets for, searching for new events, or exploring venue information, the app offers a streamlined mobile browsing experience.

At its simplest, event browsing answers one question: What events can I see and attend?

Who uses this: Customers signed in to the Seaty mobile app.

Key capabilities:

  • View events you have tickets for, staff access to, or organisation membership with
  • Search across all public Seaty events to discover new shows
  • Favourite events for quick access and priority sorting
  • View detailed event information including venue directions
  • Browse offline using cached event data

Note: You must be signed in to browse events in the Seaty mobile app.

How It Works

At a glance: Sign in, view your personalised event list, search or browse to discover events, tap to view details, and favourite events for quick access.

1. View Your Events

When you sign in, the home screen displays all events relevant to you - events where you have tickets, staff access, or organisation membership.

2. Discover New Events

Use the search bar to find events across all of Seaty, including events from organisations you're not yet connected to.

3. Explore Event Details

Tap any event to view full details including dates, venue information, directions, and any help information the organiser has provided.

4. Organise with Favourites

Favourite events to keep them at the top of your home screen for quick access across all your devices.

Think of it this way:

  • Home screen shows your personal events - what you're already connected to
  • Search opens up all of Seaty - discovering new events to attend
  • Favourites let you prioritise - keeping important events front and centre

What Events Appear on Your Home Screen?

When you sign in, the home screen displays all events relevant to you.

You'll see:

  • Events where you've purchased tickets
  • Events where you're staff or administrator
  • Events from organisations you're a member of
  • Events with active requests or bookings

You won't see:

  • Events from other organisations (use search to find these)
  • Cancelled events
  • Events you have no connection to

Why filter events this way? Your home screen focuses on events you're actually involved with, keeping it relevant and uncluttered. Use search when you want to explore beyond your existing connections.

What Information Does Each Event Card Show?

Every event card displays:

  • Event name
  • Venue name, city, and postcode
  • Date range (e.g. "From 15th Dec to 20th Dec")
  • Event image (organisation branding or event artwork)
  • Heart icon (if you've favourited the event)
  • "MEMBER" badge (if you're an organisation member)
  • "Offline data available for scanning" (if downloaded for staff use)

How Are Events Sorted?

Automatic sorting order:

  1. Favourited events (at the top)
  2. Upcoming events (sorted by date)
  3. Past events (at the bottom, if "Show past events" enabled)

Visual differences:

  • Active events: Full brightness and colour
  • Past events: Muted styling
  • Unavailable events: Clear indicator shown

Responsive Layout

The app adjusts event display based on your device:

  • Phones (portrait): One event per row
  • Tablets (small): Two events per row
  • Tablets (medium/large): Three events per row
  • Extra large screens: Four events per row

Searching for Events

Search is available when:

  • You're signed in with a personal account (not a device account)
  • You're connected to the internet

Device accounts and offline mode don't support search. You'll only see your assigned events.

  1. Tap the search bar at the top of the home screen
  2. Type your search term (event name, venue, or organisation)
  3. Tap search icon or "Done" on your keyboard
  4. View search results below

What Does Search Find?

Search finds events across all Seaty events, not just your personal events.

This includes:

  • Events from any organisation using Seaty
  • Events you don't have tickets for
  • Public events you might want to attend
  • Events from organisers you follow

Why this is useful: Discover new events and check if your favourite venues have upcoming shows.

Understanding Search Results

Results display the same information as the home screen:

  • Event name and dates
  • Venue information
  • Event images
  • Favourite status (if previously favourited)

How results are ordered: Search results appear in relevance order from the search algorithm, not sorted by favourites.

To return to your personal event list:

  • Tap the "Home" button below the search bar
  • Or clear the search field

Search Limitations

Internet required: Search queries the live Seaty database and cannot work offline.

No search history: The app doesn't save previous searches.

No filters: Search doesn't support filtering by date, venue type, or organisation. All matching events appear in results.

Viewing Event Details

Tap any event card to view detailed information.

All users see:

  • Event description and details
  • Full date and time schedule
  • Venue information and directions
  • Help information from organisers
  • Your tickets (if you have any)

Staff and admins also see (based on permissions):

  • Event statistics and sales data
  • Attendee management
  • Event files and media
  • Scanning options

Event Screen Variations

The event detail screen adapts based on your role and event type:

  • Standard events: Show event information, tickets, and actions
  • Multi-date events: Display statistics swiper (today, this week, total)
  • Members-only events: Show membership status at top

Venue Information

From event details, you can access:

  • Full venue name
  • Complete address
  • City and postcode
  • Map integration (when available)
  • Directions link (opens in maps app)

Event Help Information

Some events provide custom help information:

  • Special instructions for attendees
  • Parking information
  • Entry procedures
  • Contact details for event day support
  • Event-specific FAQs

Access: Via event detail screen menu (if organiser has configured help content)

Managing Favourites

How to Add an Event to Favourites

  1. Tap the event to open details
  2. Tap the heart icon in the navigation bar
  3. Event is immediately favourited (heart turns red)

Where favourites appear: At the top of your home screen, above all other events.

Benefits of Favourites

Quick access: Favourited events always appear first on your home screen.

Multi-device sync: Favourites sync across all devices signed in with the same account.

Persistent: Favourites remain even after events end, making it easy to find past events from organisers you follow.

Removing Favourites

Tap the filled heart icon on the event details screen. The event remains in your list but moves to its chronological position.

Viewing Past Events

What Shows By Default?

By default, the home screen shows:

  • Current events (ongoing right now)
  • Upcoming events (starting in the future)
  • Past favourited events (favourited events that have ended)

How to See All Past Events

  1. Scroll to the bottom of your event list
  2. Tap "Show past events"
  3. All historical events load and display

Why hide past events by default? Your home screen stays focused on what's coming up, while historical events remain accessible when you need them.

When Can You View Past Events?

The "Show past events" button only appears when:

  • You have past events to show
  • You're connected to the internet (past events load from server)

Offline mode: You only see cached events without past/future filtering.

Hiding Past Events Again

Tap "Hide past events" to collapse the list back to current and upcoming events only.

Browsing Events Offline

What Happens When You're Offline?

When you're not connected to the internet:

  • Cached events appear in your list
  • No favourites filtering (all cached events show)
  • No past/future filtering (all cached events show together)
  • Search is unavailable
  • Event details load from cache (may be slightly outdated)

Offline indicator: Information banner at top says "You are currently offline. Using cached event data where available."

Offline Data for Staff

Events with downloaded scanning data show "Offline data available for scanning" subtitle. These events have enhanced offline capability for staff scanning.

Refreshing When Back Online

When internet connection returns:

  1. Pull down on the home screen to refresh
  2. Events reload with latest information
  3. New events appear
  4. Past events update to accurate dates
  5. Favourites filter and sort correctly again

Understanding Event Status Indicators

Membership Badge

"MEMBER" badge indicates:

  • You may have special access or discounts
  • You're part of the organisation (e.g. school parent, season ticket holder)
  • You might see member-only events

Offline Data Status

"Offline data available for scanning" indicates:

  • Scanning data has been downloaded
  • Staff can scan tickets offline at this event
  • Useful for venues with poor connectivity

Visual States

  • Active events: Normal brightness, full colour
  • No events: Information message with link to Seaty.co.uk
  • Loading: Progress indicator while fetching events
  • Error: Error message if loading fails

Different Event Types

The app handles various event configurations:

  • Single-day events: Show specific date and time
  • Multi-day events: Display date range (e.g. "From 15th Dec to 20th Dec")
  • Tours: Show tour name and date range encompassing all tour dates
  • Recurring events: Each occurrence appears as a separate event

Device Account Limitations

If you're signed in as a device (for door scanning):

  • No search: Devices can't search all events
  • Limited list: Only events assigned to this device appear
  • No favourites: Devices can't favourite events
  • No browsing: Direct access to scanning only

Why these limitations? Device accounts exist specifically for door scanning at assigned events, not general event discovery.

Mobile vs Web

Mobile advantages:

  • Quick access on the go
  • Touch-optimised interface
  • Swipe navigation
  • Favourites sync from web

Web advantages:

  • Larger screen for reading descriptions
  • Better for deep event exploration
  • Easier text selection and copying
  • Richer search and filtering options

Sync: Browse and favourite on either platform - your favourites and event access sync across both.

Common Questions

Finding Events

Why can't I see an event I know exists? Your home screen only shows events you're connected to through tickets, staff access, or organisation membership. Use the search bar to find events from other organisations.

Can I search for events offline? No. Search queries the live Seaty database and requires an internet connection. Offline mode only displays cached events from your existing connections.

Why don't search results show my favourites first? Search results use relevance ordering from the search algorithm, not your personal favourites. Favourite sorting only applies to your home screen event list.

Managing Events

Do my favourites sync across devices? Yes. Favourites sync across all devices signed in with the same account.

Can I favourite an event I don't have tickets for? Yes. You can favourite any event you find through search, making it easier to track events you're interested in attending.

Why do some events show a MEMBER badge? This indicates you're a member of the organisation running the event. You may have special access, discounts, or see member-only events.

Troubleshooting

My events aren't loading - what should I do? Check your internet connection, then pull down on the screen to refresh. If the problem persists, sign out and sign back in, or clear the app cache.

Why is search not working? Search requires an internet connection and a personal account. Device accounts cannot use search - they only see assigned events.

I'm seeing the wrong events - why? Verify you're signed in with the correct account and check you're not viewing search results (tap "Home" to return to your personal events).

My favourites aren't syncing - how do I fix this? Pull down to refresh. If that doesn't work, check your internet connection, then sign out and back in to force a sync.
