Pins & Bookmarks
Media pins allow event organisers to mark specific positions in audio and video files, enabling instant navigation to important moments like scene changes, musical sections, or choreography markers.
Overview
At its simplest, pins answer one question: How can I quickly jump back to a specific moment in my audio or video?
Who uses this: Event organisers and staff with access to media files in the app.
Key capabilities:
- Mark specific timestamps in audio and video files
- Add descriptive names to identify each bookmark
- Jump instantly to any saved position during playback
- Organise rehearsal sections for easy repetition
- Edit or delete pins at any time
How It Works
At a glance: Pause at any moment, tap the pin button to save that position, then tap any saved pin to jump straight back to it.
1. Find your moment
Play your audio or video file until you reach the position you want to bookmark. Pause playback at the exact moment you want to save.
2. Create a pin
Tap the pin button in the media controls. The current playback position is saved, and you can optionally add a descriptive name like "Verse 2" or "Scene 3 entrance".
3. Navigate using pins
Your saved pins appear in a list below the media controls, sorted by position. Tap the play button next to any pin to jump directly to that moment and start playing.
4. Manage your collection
Edit pin names or delete pins you no longer need. Each file maintains its own collection of pins independently.
Think of it this way:
- Pins are like bookmarks in a book - they mark spots you want to return to
- The pin list is like a table of contents - showing all your marked positions in order
- Playing from a pin is like opening a book to a bookmarked page - instant access
Creating Pins
During Playback
Create pins while media is playing or paused:
- Play audio or video file to the desired position
- Pause at the exact moment you want to bookmark
- Tap the pin button in the media controls
- The position is recorded automatically
- Optionally enter a descriptive name for the pin
- The pin appears in your pins list sorted by position
Position Accuracy
Pin positions are stored precisely:
- Audio files are typically very accurate
- Video files may jump to slightly different positions depending on the recording format
- Most formats provide accuracy within a second or less
Naming Pins
Default Display
Pins created without custom names show the position time (e.g., "2:34"), making them easy to identify.
Custom Names
Add descriptive names for clarity:
- When creating a pin, enter a name like "Verse 2", "Scene 3", or "Formation change"
- Save to store the name with the position
- Skip the name to save a position-only pin
Editing Names
Update existing pin names at any time:
- Find the pin in your pins list
- Tap the edit icon next to the pin
- Modify the name text
- Tap Save to update
Suggested Naming Patterns
- Music: "Intro", "Verse 1", "Chorus", "Bridge", "Solo", "Outro"
- Theatre: "Scene 2", "John's entrance", "Blackout", "Curtain call"
- Dance: "Opening", "Section A", "Formation change", "Finale"
- Training: "Chapter 1", "Safety demo", "Key point", "Summary"
Using Pins to Navigate
Jumping to a Pin
- Your pins list appears below the media controls
- Each pin shows its position time and name (if set)
- Tap the play icon next to a pin
- Playback jumps to that position and starts playing
Playback Behaviour
When playing from a pin:
- Any current playback stops
- The player jumps to the pin position
- Playback starts automatically
- Audio continues in the background; video requires the app to stay open
Rehearsal Workflow
Typical rehearsal pattern:
- Create pins for all key sections
- Play through the file to familiarise yourself
- Jump to a specific pin to rehearse that section
- Replay the section as needed
- Jump to the next pin when ready
Managing Pins
Viewing Your Pins
The pins list appears in the file preview below the media controls:
- Shows all pins for the current file
- Sorted by position (earliest to latest)
- Displays time and name for each pin
- Shows an empty state message if no pins exist
Editing Pin Names
Update pin names whenever you like:
- Find the pin in the list
- Tap the edit icon
- Modify the text
- Tap Save to update
Deleting Pins
Remove unwanted bookmarks:
- Find the pin in your list
- Tap the delete icon
- Confirm when prompted
- The pin is removed immediately
Available Actions
Each pin in the list shows:
- Play button (start playback at this position)
- Edit button (change the name)
- Delete button (remove the pin)
Pin Storage
Where Pins Are Saved
Pins are stored on your device:
- Saved locally on your phone or tablet
- Persist when you close and reopen the app
- Each file has its own separate collection of pins
- Minimal storage space required
Important Limitations
Pins are device-specific:
- Not synchronised across devices
- If you delete and re-download a file, pins are lost
- Each device maintains its own pins
- Pins cannot be shared with other users
Use Case Examples

- 0:23 - "Soprano entry"
- 0:45 - "Forte section"

- 1:12 - "Mary's monologue"
- 2:05 - "Argument begins"
- 3:22 - "Door slam"

Workflow:
- Block John's entrance repeatedly from pin 0:34

Workflow:
- Review jump sequence positioning from pin 0:42
- Perfect partner section from pin 1:08
- Polish the finale from pin 2:01
Troubleshooting
Pin Not Saving
If a pin will not save:
- Check the file is downloaded to your device (not streaming from cloud)
- Ensure your device has available storage space
- Try pausing playback before creating the pin
- Close and reopen the app if the issue persists
Pin Playback Not Working
If tapping a pin does not start playback:
- Verify the file is still downloaded
- Try tapping play on the main controls first
- Restart the app
- Re-create the pin at that position if needed
Pins Have Disappeared
If your pins have vanished:
- Check if you re-downloaded the file (this creates a fresh copy without pins)
- Pins are stored locally, so reinstalling the app or clearing app data removes them
Position Slightly Off
If a pin plays at a slightly different position than expected:
- This is normal for video files due to how video formats store data
- Audio files are typically more precise
- Use the skip controls to fine-tune the position after jumping
Common Questions
Creating Pins
Can I create pins while the media is playing?
Yes. Tap the pin button at any time during playback. The current position is captured instantly.
Is there a limit to how many pins I can create?
No practical limit. You can create as many pins as you need for each file.
Can I change the position of a pin after creating it?
No. Delete the existing pin and create a new one at the correct position.
Using Pins
Do pins work the same for audio and video?
Yes. The creation and navigation process is identical. The only difference is that video requires the app to remain open, while audio continues in the background.
Can I share my pins with someone else?
No. Pins are stored locally on your device and cannot be exported or shared.
Storage and Sync
Will my pins sync to my other devices?
No. Pins are stored only on the device where you created them.
What happens if I delete the app?
All pins are lost. They are stored within the app's local storage.
If I re-download a file, do my pins come back?
No. Re-downloading creates a new file instance without any pins.
