Seaty started in a rehearsal room.
In 2014, during rehearsals for a local musical, breaks were spent queuing at the side of the room. Volunteers opened a battered briefcase filled with paper tickets and giant cardboard seating plans. Members queued to reserve seats, note what they owed, and promise to pay later. It worked, but it asked a lot of the people running it.
When I asked why they did not use online ticketing software, the answer was simple. They had tried. The tools were difficult to use and did not match how the company actually worked. Tickets were only part of the job. Payments were tracked over time. Seats were agreed before money changed hands. Everything relied on trust, not instant checkout.
That was the moment I decided to do something about it. Later that night, I started building Seaty.
Meant to be more than a ticket shop, built for the people doing the work to put on a show.
That idea never changed.
